SINUSITIS IN SIDDHA MEDICINE

One of the major diseases in the tropical countries like India is sinusitis (inflammation of the sinus).

In general the symptoms are heaviness of head, eye irritation, pain in the fore head, discharge of mucus or fluid or blood with mucus from the nose.

Mainly it is treated with anti histamines and anti allergic drugs. The main investigation for sinusitis is blood sample test for increase in esinophils, X- ray skull for inflammation of the sinuses. If the inflammation is severe surgical correction is recommended.

According to our siddha system siddhars had told sinusitis as mookadaipu noi.

The common symptoms for mookadaipu noi told by siddhars are redness of the nose, sneezing, redness of eyes with excessive lacrimation, running nose, headache, discharge of mucus, pus or blood from the nose.

According to the great siddhars of siddha system this disease is mainly caused by drinking excessive cold water, going out in excessive cold air, inhaling smoke or dust dense air, inhaling particles that induces sneezing, taking bath in cold water when the body temperature is high, intaking excessive amount of cold food, drinking contaminated water, compulsory stopping of lacrimation and vomiting, high decibel excessive talking, increased or shortened sleep, and wrong practice of yoga.

The first symptoms of the disease are itching or burning sensation of the nose, excessive lacrimation, change of tone in speech, headache, difficulty in breathing, and running nose.

According to our siddha system siddhars had classified this disease as 9 types. They are

1. Vali mookadaipu
2. Azhal mookadaipu
3. Aiya mookadaipu
4. Neer mookadaipu
5. Kuruthi mookadaipu
6. Seel mookadaipu
7. Siraai mookadaipu
8. Mulai mookadaipu
9. Kaluthu mookadaipu
